Fuelled by a passion for cultural integrity and equality, Kiri made history as the first Maori designer to open the New Zealand Fashion Week in 2023.
In 2017, Kiri founded the Kahui Collective, supporting the growth and mentorship of indigenous fashion creatives and entrepreneurs. This collective makes up just one component of the ecosystem Kiri is building, known as KAURI, set to be the first commercial Maori fashion industry. Kiris business is deeply rooted in te ao Maori.
Kiri’s career is incredible as a trailblazer, she was the first in NZ fashion to work with Walt Disney, the first to be invited by the queen of Thailand to the Celebration of Silk, first to weave two kakahu to cloak every woman inducted as a Dame in Aotearoa.
Kiri is groundbreaking having formed coalitions, led international delegations, and created pathways for Maori fashion designers.
Kiri has dressed the OSCARS red carpet, world premieres and holds various governance roles. Her designs have graced notable figures including Barack and Michelle Obama, Meghan Markle and Beyoncé - showcasing the best of Aotearoa on a world stage.
Kiri is an indemand inspirational entrepnuer called on regularly to share her insights on business - including te ao Maori principals, values and purpose, responsibility, reciprocation and sustainability.
