Tom McRae is a prime time television presenter and senior reporter with Newshub.
He's been a journalist for over 10 years with both TVNZ and Mediaworks, and in that time has covered some of the most significant stories in both New Zealand and internationally.
He first made his mark covering and living through the Canterbury earthquakes and was also on the ground throughout the Pike River mine disaster.
While living in Sydney as Newshub's Australian Correspondent, Tom witnessed the Sydney siege from the newsroom he was working out of across the road, and covered the story once allowed out of a police lock-down. Tom travelled to Kuala Lumpur for both the MH370 plane disappearance and MH17 plane disaster and was also sent to Paris to cover the terror attack at the Bataclan Theatre.
Now living back in Auckland with his wife and young family, Tom presents Newshub Live at 6pm on the weekends and has hosted many significant live broadcasts including Donald Trump's election as US President, John Key's resignation and the Kaikoura earthquake.
While Tom has many a story to tell about the serious events he's covered, it's his warmth and lighter touch that helps him bring those stories to life and the quality that makes him an excellent MC.
