One of the world's best known netball players and the most-capped player of all time, Irene van Dyk is renowned for her accurate goal shooting skills. Irene made her debut for the Silver Ferns in 2000 against her former team, South Africa.
Previous experience
Irene left behind a successful netball career in South Africa when she decided to move to Wellington with her husband and daughter. Irene became a citizen of New Zealand in 2005.
Awards
She won the Halberg Award for New Zealand Sportswoman of the Year in 2003 and was nominated again in 2005.
As a member of the Silver Ferns, Irene's successes include the 2003 World Championship, as well as the 2006 and 2010 Commonwealth Games gold medals.

Irene was hugely popular and very entertaining. Her speech was very enjoyable and she answered all questions in an equally enjoyable manner. Simply put, she was a big hit. Her presence caused us to raise an amount of money that was unheard of in our area.
