Don’t let what you can’t do affect what you can do.
Christchurch based, Cody Everson is a highly respected player for the New Zealand Wheel Blacks team (Wheel chair rugby).
Cody was 15-years-old when he sustained a spinal injury as a result of a rugby tackle in a game of 1st XV. As a result, he is a tetraplegic and lost use of his legs and has limited movement in his hands and arms. After six months in rehabilitation at Burwood Hospital in Christchurch, Cody was determined to get back into sport. He started playing wheelchair rugby with the Canterbury Wheelchair Rugby Club in 2012. Just two years later he was selected for the New Zealand Wheel Blacks.
He’s since travelled with the team all over the world for international tournaments including the most recent Tokyo Paralympics games. Since returning from the Paralympic Games, Cody married to his beautiful wife Jess. They have been through IVF and welcomed their son Emilio into the world on 06/07/22.
Cody is an avid advocate of improving spinal services and supporting clients and persons within the community. His message is simple: “My desire is for people to leave the room with the knowledge that no challenge is too big. That they will have a understanding of my process of achieving through adversity, and will have found some motivation and inspiration to strive to be the best they can be. Don’t let what you can’t do affect what you can do.”
Cody was very personable, related well to our guests. Great story, told from the heart with humour! ... keep reading Architectural Designers New Zealand
