What an honour and privilege to work with the experts and leaders we do! We were lucky enough to have a Mental Fitness team webinar by Dr Paul Wood on coping during this uncertain time.
I wanted to share some of the key learnings from our webinar that I think could help you. I would urge you to consider having the same session for your team as it truly has made a real difference for myself and my team!
During this time of crisis self-care is a necessity - not a nice to have. It must be a discipline we practice every day; in doing this we build our capacity to go longer, and recover faster, it is not going to magically change things but it will mean we are able to cope better.
Self-care is different for everyone and you will read a lot of things that generalise, so experiment to find what works for you and how much of each you need - sleep, exercise/movement, good natural food, being in nature, music, breathing, mindfulness etc.
Don’t think ahead – now is all there is right now.
Don’t put any “shoulds” on yourself right now.
If you are a parent this is not a time to judge yourself on great parenting, this is a crisis and its survival parenting, just do the best you can.
Observe your emotions, stress, anxiety etc and accept them – NAME IT TO TAME IT. Accepting your emotions and naming them will lower the intensity of them and normalise them.
The biggest gift you can give anyone right now is being present. Listen like you will be tested on it.
Remember you have no idea what you are capable of until the heat is on, trust yourself, you can do this!
